How a one-way rental works
- Enter where your trip starts. Choose "Deliver to address" in the booking bar and type in an address or simply the name of your hotel. If you would rather start at one of our stations, choose "Pick up at station".
- Enter where it ends. Select "Return to a different address" and enter your destination: a hotel, an airport, a private address or another CarVia station.
- See your price. Within seconds you see the available cars and the one-way fee for your route. No request form, no waiting for a quote.
- Drive. We hand over the car in person and walk you through it. At the end of your trip, we collect it where you are.
From hotel to hotel instead of counter to counter
Most car rentals start and end at a counter. We would rather come to you. Have your car delivered to your hotel on the first day and collected at your hotel on the last: no taxi to a rental station, no detour before your flight home.
If you prefer, you can still pick up or return at a CarVia station. At many of them you can return around the clock via the key drop box.
What a one-way rental costs
The one-way fee is calculated individually for every route, so there is no price list. What you get instead is the exact fee for your trip, shown within seconds while you book. With most luxury rental companies, you have to send a request and wait for a quote.
The easiest way to find out is to try it: enter your start, your destination and your dates in the booking bar above. There is no minimum rental period, and you do not have to book weeks ahead.
Where you can drive
Cross-border trips are possible with every car in our fleet to Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Italy, France, Monaco, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Portugal and mainland Spain. Select the cross-border option during booking and the car is covered for your route.
One-way rentals work with every car as well, from the luxury sedan to the supercar.
Ideas for your one-way trip
- Munich to Milan: about 310 miles across the Alps, from your hotel in Munich to your hotel in Milan.
- Munich to Paris: about 515 miles. Plan a night in Strasbourg or Reims.
- Frankfurt to Amsterdam: about 275 miles, an easy day from the main US gateway to the canals.
- Paris to Barcelona: about 645 miles. Take two days and stop in Lyon or on the Mediterranean coast.
- Barcelona to Marbella: about 630 miles down the Spanish coast.
- Frankfurt to Nice: about 605 miles, from the Rhine to the Côte d'Azur.

One-way rentals for visitors from the US
Your US license is enough. A valid US or Canadian driver's license is all you need, no international driving permit. Bring your passport for the ID check.
Flying in and out of different cities? That is what one-way is for: arrive in Munich (MUC) or Frankfurt (FRA), fly home from Paris (CDG), Barcelona (BCN) or Amsterdam (AMS).
Minimum age. It is 25 for many models and higher for some of the most powerful cars. The booking tool shows the exact requirement for each car.
The deposit is only blocked. It is held on a credit card in the renter's name and never charged.
